About WKA

MISSION STATEMENT

The World Karate Association (WKA) is a 501(c)(3) international nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the advancement and promulgation of Traditional Karate through ancient and modern training methodology, innovative pedagogy, scientific research, educational licensing programs, scholarships, international events and supporting WKA member dojos and Traditional Karate programs in low-income communities and countries with a low human development index. Practitioners of all styles of Traditional Okinawan/Japanese Karate are welcome to join the WKA. The WKA will use the art of Traditional Karate as a vehicle to promote world peace, personal safety, cultural exchange, international working relationships, human development, equality and equity among all people, and unity in the international Traditional Karate community.

THE 10 PURPOSES OF THE WORLD KARATE ASSOCIATION

To promote world peace and cultural exchange through the art of Traditional Karate.

To increase the level of communication and cooperation between the different styles and organizations.

To advance the art of Traditional Karate by making additions and modifications based on history, science, technology and the sharing of knowledge with other styles.

The implementation of educational and licensing programs to advance the level of Traditional Karate instruction worldwide.

To provide international educational and training scholarships for the underprivileged and financially disadvantaged.

To promote creativity in teaching and training.

To provide equal opportunities for training and development to all minority and marginalized groups.

To provide equal opportunities for training and development to those with intellectual and physical disabilities and limitations.

To conduct research on various aspects of Traditional Karate and the Martial Arts industry via the use of experiments, surveys, questionnaires, interviews, case studies, participant and non-participant observation, observational trials and studies using the Delphi Method.

To distinguish between the 10 INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENTS of Traditional Karate, and develop a worldwide network of expert instructors in each of the following specializations:
